Trail Overview

Elliot Ranch Road in Foresthill, California, is a rugged, unpaved route in the Tahoe National Forest, offering access to various recreational activities. It serves as the starting point for challenging trails like the Green Valley Trail, which descends steeply to the North Fork of the American River, and the Euchre Bar Trail, a historic 5.28-mile path along the river featuring fishing, camping, and swimming spots. The road itself is rocky and best navigated with high-clearance vehicles, making it popular among off-road enthusiasts and providing scenic views for hikers, mountain bikers, and drivers alike.

Trail was pretty much clear the entire way. We entered from the Foresthill Road side and traveled the entire way to Sugar Pine Reservoir via Elliot Ranch (took Giant's Gap first and the missed part of Elliot Ranch on the way back). Trail was quite dusty but not too bad overall. Only thing of note was where the road forks to the right at the Foresthill Road side, if taking any car type vehicle, I would suggest going straight and meeting back up with Elliot Ranch Road instead of following the green line for that short bit (unless you want your paint pinstriped a little bit). The brush is mostly clear but there are a few spots where it encroaches on the green trail part between the two forks.

Trail is open the entire length of Elliot Ranch Road. Puddles still in the road, but didn’t require 4wd to get through them.

Currently closed between giant gap and pioneer mine. There is a way around both gates but I wouldn’t know anything about it…

When coming from Foresthill Rd, OnX has you take a right about a mile up the trail. I’d suggest going straight instead. Taking a right leads to a narrow somewhat rocky side trail the eventually meets up with the standard trail.
