Deter Spur - FS 41N41

This five-mile out-and-back trail starts and returns to Highway 15, also known as the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway. The trail surface is dusty dirt and runs 1.5 vehicles wide, surrounded by young and medium-growth pine forest within the Shasta National Forest. It's a genuinely pretty route that highlights the forest area well, running along a wide shelf road that offers nice views of the trees below. This trail stands out as one of the great examples of what the Shasta National Forest has to offer, showcasing a variety of trees and meadows along a nicely maintained path. Keep an eye out for black bears that may cross the trail. The official trail ends at the private property line of a lumber company, so visitors should respect this boundary and keep out.
