Coyote Lake

Trail is open, not super crowded just one group ahead of us. Past Red Lake seems to be little bit more dug out. But great short trail to get in the rocks for a weekend

Perfect conditions. Good stuff started at the end of red lake where the Gatekeeper was, we came with 2 Toyotas and a Jeep. One Toyota was on 31s and made it to red lake. The Jeep on 35s and the other Toyota on 37s made it to Coyote lake. The Coyote lake trail bare minimum you need 33s and a locker, and that will be a long (but fun) day. I had to winch my jeep over a mandatory boulder at the end of the trail where my 35s and 4 inch lift still got beached.

Pretty grueling even on 37s. Would not run solo unless youre on 40s with lockers. Pretty technical rock crawling escapade.

OnX took us right to the trail head. Trail starts out as gravel, sand and dirt. Turns to Rocky mix as you progress. Then larger rock fields turn to aggressive boulder fields as you get deeper into the trail. I use to go all the way to Coyote Lake in the Late 80's in my 77 CJ5 AMC 304 32" BFG's with 1" shackle lift and it was cake. But I would have to say I would not take it here these days. The trail has been extremely abused and radically altered since those days. I even took a basically stock 1984 full sized Ford Bronco with 32s into Red and I would have to say not today. Smallest tires I saw on any other Jeep today were 40s. Have to say the 2026 Rubicon X could have used some lift to make it a little more less stress.

Very beautiful lakes dusty and 2 ruff spots at gate keeper and the roots not much off camber all flat obstacles for most part and lots of rock gardens

Navigated trail with 5th gen 4Runner full skids , lockers and 33’s and a JKUR on 35’s built. Some challenging rock gardens and trees. Went as far as Red Lake and did not attempt gatekeeper to coyote. Great weekend

DUSTY. Great trail. 4 miles of which about 3 are on rocks. super nice lakes. doo not follow directions for on x. they take you too far up 168. follow sign for red mountain trail just before Tamarack lodge
