Trail Overview
This trail starts just off San Felipe Wash and ends at Highway 22, featuring a very sandy surface with very fine sand throughout. The trail is one and a half vehicles wide with lots of washboards and whoops that will keep your suspension working constantly. The route is lined with creosote bushes on both sides, creating a natural corridor. There is a pit toilet public restroom on the trail providing convenience for visitors. This trail is part of the Ocotillo Wells OHV area and is part of the California State Park system, where off road vehicles that are registered are able to run the trails, as well as any legal highway vehicle.
Difficulty
This is an easy to moderate trail with the very fine sand being the main challenge, requiring momentum management. Airing down is recommended for better traction in the fine sand. The lots of washboards and whoops create a very bumpy, jarring ride that will slow your pace, but aren't technically difficult. The one-and-a-half vehicle width provides adequate room for navigation.
