Pretty solid run — super rutted, and one corner had washed out except for about single track. Some muddy corners, but completely passable.

The main trail is not a 4/10. It is a 1/10. They JUST graded the road. A stock Hyundai Sonata could make it through the trail. But it’s has some nice off shoots to explore that go up in challenge.

Started trail around 10 am. Trail was a bit rocky and a few ruts but nothing bad. I was able to do main road in 2wd the whole trail. I also do some offshoots. Fun time!!

My first time running Cleghorn, was a lot of fun! Main trail is quite easy (I’d rate a 2), can be tackled with most SUVs/trucks/crossovers as long as you have a bit of ground clearance for small rutted out sections. The offshoots are very fun and range in difficulty, I’d say there’s a little something for everyone up there. I ended up on The Chute by mistake, which is one of the more challenging obstacles. Steep, narrow, off-camber section with lots of deep ruts right now. You’ll have to hug the wall to maintain balance, which makes navigating the set of steep ledges a challenge. I didn’t have a spotter, but luckily made it out with only a flesh wound on my rear bumper.

This was my first time on this trail. I really enjoyed it. I like that it had an easy road with several off shoots that link back to the main road. This makes it nice for people in lest capable vehicles or less experienced drivers that are with seasoned rigs. You can safely split up and not have to go too far before joining the group again. I drove up from San Diego and will be returning soon.

AWD Mercedes crossover with 10.5” of ground clearance and Nomad Grappler AT tires was able to easily make it through the main road of the trail as well as tackle some of the moderate offshoots. There might be some spots that an AWD with less clearance may scrape on, but nice enjoyable trail. A few small groups coming through, but there was enough space to not require any backing up to get around. Main trail is probably level 3, with offshoots starting at 4+ level difficulty.

If you go for the fun spots, the trail rates about a 4 out of 10 in difficulty; skip them, and it’s closer to a 2. Further east, heading from the summit toward Silverwood Lake, the road passes through dense hardwood thickets and gets fairly narrow. Jeep- or Bronco-type rigs handle it fine, but mid-size and full-size pickups will scrape the sides, leaving plenty of marks that won’t come off without professional polishing.

Trail was open coming from the 15. Compared to 8 months ago the trail is in rough shape. The V notches and ruts are far more exposed and filled with silt/sand. 21' Tacoma 4 cylinder w/ open diffs on 32's. Only saw a few others on the trail but nobody else doing the offshoots. Not many tire tracks to gauge the more difficult sections. Great day overall and even fun to struggle a bit, had the traction boards out more than once.

Open coming from the 15 side, 138 is technically still closed but you are allowed to leave on 138, it’s a 2 min drive to a sheriff blockade and they let any vehicles through that came out of cleghorn.

We took this trail on Saturday morning (6/7/2025). It was fairly busy — we met several Jeeps and dirt bikes along the way. We stayed on the main trail without taking any offshoots, and it was an easy, relaxing drive. The views were beautiful, especially the lake—absolutely stunning. We saw another Jeep that seemed to hit every offshoot, tackling all the technical challenges while we cruised steadily along the easier route. If you're looking for a peaceful scenic drive, the main trail is perfect. If you're up for a thrill, some of the offshoots offer higher difficulty and more excitement. There’s really something for everyone on this trail.

We ran Cleghorn after midnight; be prepared for a massive chassis impact and hardcore zebra stripes. The trail is in worse condition than last summer due to the recent rains. We all made it, and nobody broke down.
