Trail Overview
Accessed directly from Claycroft Road, this exceptionally narrow off-highway vehicle track plunges you immediately into a beautifully lush, dense tree tunnel. The tight evergreen canopy provides constant, heavy shade, meaning you won't find sweeping scenic vistas or open clearings for dispersed camping anywhere along this deeply enclosed route. The trail surface consists primarily of a soft, earthy forest floor heavily blanketed in loose pine needles, scattered small sticks, and patches of shifting dirt. As you navigate the winding route, be prepared for several large, downed tree trunks encroaching closely on the path, creating severe pinch points that make passing oncoming traffic exceptionally difficult. Because the track is so tightly squeezed between towering pines and steep hillside embankments, standard-width passenger vehicles cannot fit without sustaining severe pinstriping and possibly body damage. The path twists and turns through the quiet forest, offering a distinctly isolated and heavily wooded atmosphere from start to finish.
Difficulty
The journey kicks off with a steep, demanding climb heavily covered in loose, shifting rock, which quickly transitions into a similarly rocky and uneven descent. While the path eventually mellows out into a softer forest floor, traction can still be easily compromised by the thick layers of pine needles and scattered debris. The most significant challenge, however, is the extreme narrowness. The tight tree clearances and large, downed logs jutting directly into the pathway make this route strictly impassable for standard-width vehicles, requiring focused maneuvering and appropriate ground clearance to carefully navigate over the chunky, embedded stones and thick branches without hanging up your undercarriage.
