Trail Overview
Cherry Hill Road South FS 22S12 picks up after Big Meadow and serves as the southern artery deeper into Sequoia National Forest, providing access to Long Meadow, Taylor Meadow, and various other trails along its 11-mile length. The trail climbs over 1,800 feet and drops over 500 feet through pine trees and diverse forest flora. A shelf road runs along much of the route with a steep embankment dropping to the valley below and beautiful views of the surrounding area throughout. Wildlife is abundant in this corridor, with bobcats, coyotes, rabbits, black bears, and whitetail deer all active in the area.
Difficulty
Cherry Hill Road South is notably rougher than its northern counterpart. Ruts, off-camber sections, and bumps appear throughout the route. The width narrows to as little as one vehicle wide in sections, adding to the challenge on the shelf road portions with the steep embankment below. The sustained elevation gain of 1,800 plus feet across 11 miles adds physical demand throughout. Street-legal vehicles only are permitted, and no ATVs or UTVs are allowed.
