Trail Overview

Boca Hill Trail is a 2.5 mile trail. The trail passes the peak of Boca Hill, a great place to stop and get some pictures from above I-80 with many peaks in the background. The trail turns left and heads toward a rock outcrop that acts as a viewpoint overlooking Prosser and Boca reservoirs with many peaks in the background including Sierra Crest and Verdi Peak. From the top you will have to backtrack a bit before you can pick a new way down. There are many trails in this area and most are in good enough condition for a stock SUV with a bit of driver skill.

Difficulty

The trail is pretty easy however there are a couple bigger rocks and one fairly steep section that will take some care to get up in a stock SUV.

Empty trail, someone has come by and cut down obstacles — trail looked pretty good. Easy with high clearance 4x4. No traffic, only a MTB.

Pretty chill, hella rocky but the rocks are mostly pretty small. The more upper you go the more rockier it gets. I probably wouldn't wanna do it in a Subie but truck's and SUVs should be strait.

STOCK 23 LB Taco. Only mod is rock sliders. 0 performance mods. I went solo, probably not the best idea in the snow and on my first trip. But it was pretty easy, starts off with a long straight shot, when you hit the “turn right on bumps” that OnX tells you, that’s when it gets fun. You are met with a “Scary” looking puddle. But it’s just that, a puddle! Theres tire tracks of people driving around adding to the scare factor. I just gunned it, it was approx 8 inch deep of mud/water with a 1 foot drop decline and incline out. 4H, Tacozilla ate that like an appetizer and was asking for the main course. About halfway through there’s a sharp right turn w incline, slid about a foot, probably the only time my brown starfish puckered up. The rest is pretty fun, very bumpy, very demure. Leave the wife unless you want to hear “watch out for that rock!” News flash babe, we are off roading! There’s going to be rocks! Turned around at the peak and went back down the same way. No one else in sight.

Dirt Bike review : This may be an easy trail for 4 wheels but for dirt bikes the last section is all rocks (see pic). It’s feasible but that last stretch is an 8 on difficulty for two wheels. The first section is 3-4. Some good climbs, mid size rocks here and there but easy to avoid.

We drove a stock 2020 Wrangler Sahara and had no problem. The lower part of the trail was quite easy and smooth. Once you cross the motorbike track, the trail becomes very rocky and bumpy with lots of small, fairly loose stones. Nothing too steep, we probably could have made it up with 2 wheel drive only, but did put it in 4high just to make life easy. The view was beautiful and would definitely do it again.

Trail was in overall good condition. Snow was packed from other 4x4s & snow mobiles who have been by recently. Only spot that gave some pucker was a hairpin near the top that caused the trucks to slip around. Made it up and down with a 3rd gen Tacoma on 33s and a 14th gen F-150 on 35s.
