Trail Overview
Branching off BLM 539 NW, this sand and gravel wash winds through a corridor dense with large trees, desert bushes, and seasonal blooming wildflowers, creating an unusually vegetated passage. Recent flooding has reshaped portions of the wash, altering the original route and creating new challenges. Transitional steps dot the entire length, all staying under 18 inches but appearing frequently enough to keep you working. You're in the limited-use side of the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area here, meaning established trails only.
Difficulty
Those lots of transitional steps under 18 inches accumulate into a workout over the distance, demanding constant attention to approach angles and line selection. The recent flooding means conditions differ from older descriptions, with new ruts and altered terrain adding unpredictability. High clearance and four wheel drive help navigate the changed wash environment. Respect those limited-use boundaries and stay on established routes only.
