Trail Overview

One vehicle wide throughout, this sand and gravel route threads through terrain that shifts character as you travel. Heading north reveals mountain backdrops, while southbound travel frames the Imperial Sand Dunes in your windshield. Large bushes, brush, and seasonal wildflowers crowd the edges, though it's the south end that demands respect. There, overgrown trees bristle with sharp thorns that will absolutely add pinstripes to your paint. The trail widens and gets sandier as you push north, giving you more breathing room. Multiple runoff washes interrupt the route with slight steps under 12 inches, but there's one troublemaker 2 miles from the south that drops over 18 inches and changes everything.

Difficulty

4/10 overall due to one critical obstacle, though most of the trail runs at 2/10. That single wash 2 miles from the south with its 18+ inch drop is what earns this trail its rating. High clearance becomes essential there, possibly requiring spotting or careful line selection. The rest just demands attention to the narrow width and those overgrown thorny trees at the south end. Four wheel drive helps with the sandy northern sections. If you can clear that one big step, the rest flows smoothly.
