Trail Overview

This trail is located near the historic Bodie Ghost Town and starts near Bridgeport, California, climbing up almost 2000 feet into the mountains along Aurora Canyon. The route travels primarily through BLM land with some sections of private property along the way, so staying on the established trail is important to respect these boundaries. The trail surface consists of dusty sand with some gravel, maintaining a width of 1.5 vehicles throughout the route. The canyon is lined with abundant sagebrush along with a few conifer trees that climb along the rolling hills, creating a classic high desert mountain landscape. When descending the trail, drivers are rewarded with great views of the Eastern Sierra mountains, providing a scenic payoff for the climbing sections.
