Trail Overview

This wide, well-maintained fine-dirt trail travels deeper into the forest and provides access to numerous surrounding trails and camping areas. The route is easy to navigate with no significant obstacles and offers scenic forest views throughout. This trail is suitable for virtually any vehicle and is van and trailer friendly. Numerous campsites can be accessed from connecting trails throughout the area. The fine-dirt surface may become more difficult when wet.

History

Inyo National Forest was established in 1907 and today protects a vast section of the Eastern Sierra surrounding Mammoth Lakes. The area has a long history of Native American use, mining, ranching, and recreation, while its dramatic landscape was shaped by volcanic activity, glaciers, and the uplift of the Sierra Nevada.
