Trail Overview
The Arkansas Overland Route - TrailHawk Loop - Section 16 is an easy, scenic 7.2-mile corridor perfect for beginner offroaders and overlanders looking for a relaxed journey to a secluded lakeside retreat. Transitioning between gravel and pavement, this well-maintained corridor winds through a densely forested landscape with minimal elevation changes, ranging gently between 73 and 143 feet. Starting off Highway 160 and heading south, the path is highly accessible to standard vehicles during dry weather, providing a smooth and straightforward driving experience.
The journey culminates at Eagle Landing Lake, which offers a boat ramp, picnic spots, and dispersed camping opportunities for those looking to extend their stay. While generally easy and rated a 1 on the technical scale, the unpaved gravel portions can become slick and sloppy after rain, meaning four-wheel-drive or high-clearance SxSs, SUVs, and trucks are recommended to navigate the muddy patches safely. Occasional rough sections and minor potholes may develop along the gravel, but the route remains highly approachable and serves as an excellent gateway to the region's scenic waterways.
Access Description
There are no fees or permits required to travel this route or to access the Eagle Landing Lake boat ramp and dispersed camping areas. The route is accessible year-round, though four-wheel-drive or high-clearance vehicles are highly recommended during or after wet weather due to muddy road conditions.
