Trail Overview
This route combines a rugged, scenic section near Tarapin Creek Road with an easier stretch of Ritz Road leading toward the historic community of Ritz. The western portion follows a rocky path near the river, with wet areas, a bridge crossing, striking aquamarine water, and a small dispersed campsite suitable for vans and compact four-wheel-drive vehicles. The eastern portion continues along Ritz Road through mostly private property, with Forest Service land near Tarapin Creek Road, a small creek crossing that is typically passable for most medium- to high-clearance two-wheel-drive vehicles, and access to Johnson Cemetery and the remnants of Ritz, where only a few modern homes, fields, and abandoned structures remain. This route makes a good easy country outing with minimal skill requirements, though there are no amenities, potable water, or trash disposal, and cell service is limited.
