Trail Overview

Hogg (FS 93040B) starts out flat as it follows Mill Creek for the first 300 yards, but quickly gains in elevation as it climbs through a wash and over rocky ledges for the first 1/8th mile after the start of the hill climb. The wash has a large rock that could be challenging for full-size rigs and top-heavy UTVs, with the potential for body damage. The rock ledges are moderate and should be easily traversed with high-clearance rigs. After the rock ledges, the trail is uneventful with a few mud holes as it continues the climb up to Adams Mountain Rd.

The top out on the second hill climb coming from the south is no joke. We did it in a well-built 80-series and a 5th gen 4Runner. I would strongly advise walking up the hill and picking your tire placement, which is critical to avoid body damage, very carefully. I'm no beginner and no expert, but even with a good spotter I was puckered up pretty good at the top. Other than the top this trail was a non-event for us, with several VERY nice pools/camps to stop out coming to the road from Granny Gap.
