Trail Overview

This Jeep trail will take you a different way into the area north of Box Canyon. The route in from SR 79 is easy, and the eastern end of this entry is very scenic with mountain views and nice stands of saguaro. Once you get into the concentration of trails north of Box Canyon, this track will take you up and down ridges, in and out of washes, and along deeply washed roads until you say "WhoopDeDo!" You will be on roads most people have not discovered. Some are well-traveled - some are not - but all are a bunch of fun. Roller Coaster is near the end of the run and is aptly named. It has numerous steep climbs and descents that will "tickle your tummy" just like a roller coaster. Only drive this one if you are comfortable with steep roads. Watch for a strange saguaro on your way down from Roller Coaster.

The stretch from Box Canyon to Sandman is an exciting and highly challenging drive, perfectly suited for experienced off-roaders looking to test their skills. Recent heavy rains have caused significant erosion and deep washouts, making line selection critical and increasing the technical difficulty. Drivers must maintain constant focus, as the trail features numerous steep hill climbs and equally sharp descents. If you enjoy a demanding challenge where precise vehicle control is paramount, this section is a thrilling reward. For those less interested in technical driving, the trail conditions post-rain may prove frustrating. The erosion and constant requirement for high attention can be taxing on companions. However, for the driver, the difficulty is the main appeal—it truly gauges and rewards your driving capability. High clearance, 4WD, and good tires are non-negotiable for safely navigating this raw, intense, and rewarding segment of the trail system.

Towards the end of the trail heading back into box canyon wash the hills are really steep. Rain has made splits from erosion in the trail. The way back into the wash after the wish bone is a real pucker factor in a side by side.

Second time out here me and my stepdad found a single track trail. The main sxs trails are good mainly flat some washes and some rocks here and there. The single track trail was really fun minus laying it over twice. Lots of steep inclines and declines with the single track parts of it was rocky and would have to cross over a wash or two. Overall the sxs trails are really good and if you find the single track it’s also really fun good learning experience for people new to single tracks

Definitely doable with a prerunner type build, I have a 2wd heavy duty LSD and long travel suspension and I took this trail until I hit BLM than we stopped to shoot targets and went back. Not a smooth ride at all but definitely not a hard trail whatsoever. But if you really wanna go fast I’d bring a spare tire or 2 as the rocks and ledges will get you if Youre going 40mph+
