Trail Overview
The Sad Lockout shows promise right out of the gate. It begins with a long, winding, and wide uphill that pops out looking at epic views of the surrounding Arizona backcountry. The sweeping turns give way to beautiful vistas and make for interesting photos with the leading lines pulling you into the landscape like a real-life nature painting. Sadly, the trail ends at a locked gate, much like the other side of where (presumably) this trail connects. Lord knows what the gates are protecting; there are only rocks and trees out here, but suffice it to say, it must be of extreme value to someone, somewhere. There are no obstacles on this trail, as well as no cell service, so offline maps for this area are a must.

Difficulty
While this trail is unmaintained, there are no obstacles, with plenty of room to pass and turn around. Be careful on the curves and enjoy the views. There are individual pullouts near each powerline tower if you want to stop and take in the beautiful scenery.
