Trail Overview

This is a very nice loop between Horseshoe Dam Road and Bartlett Lake Road that takes you through varied terrain and some very interesting rock formations. This trail is part of the St. Clair OHV trail system and was opened to the public on April 6, 2024. This area was decimated by fire several years ago, but it has grown back very nicely. The trail has a wonderful overlook view of Bartlett Lake and the entire area. If you use this trail system, you will need a Tonto National Forest Off-Highway Vehicle Permit (6 months for $6) which can be purchased at recreation.gov.

Difficulty

There are some rutted areas on this trail and a wash to cross that may run after rains, but otherwise it's a very easy trail.

Fun, winding trail with sandy washes, a few steep climbs, and great desert views. We ran across a couple hikers and one SxS, but other than that we had the place to ourselves. The trail is easy, though be aware that many places had wheel ruts deep enough to cause clearance issues for the stock 2012 Rubicon on 32s. The trail is wide enough to ride out of the ruts with the right line.

It rained last night, but there were just a few puddles along the way. Dirt was nice and weather was perfect. Saw one sxs and was by myself the rest of the time.

Fun trail in my stock Tacoma TRD Off-Road. Had to pull over to let a couple SxS's pass but other than that just me on the trail. Mostly dirt with some rocks that turns into sand as you get down in the wash on then Bartlett Lake Rd side. I started from Horse Shoe Dam Road.
