Trail Overview

Ss1071a begins after the tank off Haekel Road, starting at the second overlook camping area. The route is mostly gravel and winds through dense cholla, overgrown creosote, ground cactus, and scattered yuccas. Camping is available both near the start and at the end of the trail. Towards the end, the trail works through rolling hills and a few minor washouts. Nothing highly technical, but high clearance is recommended, and 4WD is helpful on several of the hill climbs. The route can fade in spots; stay alert. Expect beautiful views of Mount Graham and the surrounding ranges. A perfect place to bring lunch or dinner and catch the sunset over Mount Graham... with sunrise views to the east offering great photo opportunities.
