Southbound and Down

Southbound and Down starts wide and is a smooth trail that narrows as it runs south along the eastern border of this section of Arizona State Trust Land. This trail is lined with creosote and cactus, which at some points guarantee paint damage. This trail has multiple wash crossings with steep entrances and exits, as well as erosion that cuts across the trail. This could turn problematic after or during major rain events, as this area of Arizona is shaped by runoff and water events. It's important to note that this route is on Arizona State Trust Land and requires a yearly permit that can be purchased and printed online. The permits allow certain recreational activities, including camping, bicycling, bird watching, GPS-based recreational activities (geocaching), hiking, horseback riding, off-highway vehicle (OHV) usage, photography, picnicking, and sightseeing.
