Trail Overview
Short Turkey begins at the water tank at the end of Trail 4892 and descends into the canyon along a rocky and heavily eroded single-track route. The trail features multiple off-camber sections and requires careful navigation. Along the way, fresh bear scat and cattle droppings were visible, indicating active wildlife and livestock presence in the area. After the initial descent, the trail passed through a cattle station beside a wash, leading to a gate with no signage. Continuing forward, we encountered a locked gate, forcing us to find an alternate route through the wash. This led to a narrow single-track road that gradually widened as it meandered past picturesque ranch houses and expansive cattle stations. It was only upon exiting the area that we encountered private property and no hunting signs, highlighting the importance of verifying access before entering this route. No dispersed campsites are available along the way and there are no amenities such as trash disposal or potable water, and cell service may be limited.
