Trail Overview

SA1007 is the main access trail into this trail system. This point-to-point route begins off Black Point Road, which starts from Main Street in Pima, Arizona. The entrance is easy to miss—a narrow passage between private property with a gate, cattle guard, and a warning sign indicating a primitive road. At night, it may appear to be a private driveway. The trail starts with a rutted, rocky section that acts as a gatekeeper for low-clearance vehicles. After this initial stretch, it opens into a wide, well-maintained road. The trail does pass through state trust land, so make sure you have a permit.

History

These trails were working roads in the late 1800s as wagon routes, livestock paths, and access roads for early settlers, ranchers, and farmers in the Gila River Valley. Now turned forgotten corridors, they were discovered long ago, but are still used quietly.
