The Rockin' Ram Trail - Southern Section offers scenic desert riding for intermediate offroaders, SxSs, and high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles seeking a rugged journey through the mountains south of Interstate 10. This point-to-point dirt trail spans approximately 21 miles from Quartzsite to Brenda, featuring an elevation range from 925 feet up to nearly 1,970 feet. The route incorporates moderate challenges with a technical rating of 3, meaning drivers will encounter rocky stretches, minor erosion, and sandy washes that can shift significantly after heavy monsoon rains. When starting from the east near Brenda, the track leads riders west on the Spur Loop toward a low interstate underpass. To successfully navigate the underpass tunnel beneath Interstate 10, SxSs up to 75 inches wide must temporarily remove flagpoles and antennas, while larger high-clearance four-wheel-drive rigs should exercise extreme caution as they may not clear the tight opening. Beyond this technical obstacle, the trail meanders through scenic, arid mountain terrain, intersecting with the historic Dripping Springs Trail before crossing back over Interstate 10 via the paved portion of the Spur Loop near Quartzsite. Offroaders visiting the area between April 1 and October 30 should remain vigilant for rattlesnakes, wear sturdy boots, and carry plenty of water.
