Trail Overview

Rock Butte's Rocky Revenge is a scenic, moderately challenging 4.1-mile point-to-point trail designed for intermediate offroaders looking to test their skills against rugged desert terrain while enjoying up-close views of the prominent 5,423-foot Rock Butte. Accessing the route from the west via Bullock Trail provides an easy introduction before the terrain transitions into a demanding series of obstacles. The trail climbs to a maximum elevation of 5,103 feet, winding through the arid landscape with tight turns and narrow passages hemmed in by tight trees. With a technical rating of 5, drivers will need a high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicle or a capable SxS to safely navigate the increasingly difficult conditions. East of Rock Butte, the path becomes significantly more technical, characterized by loose rocky hills, steep ledges, and deep washouts that demand careful wheel placement. Drivers will negotiate off-camber sections situated mid-turn, alongside steep, deeply rutted transitions leading into and out of dry washes. While negotiating these obstacles, the route treats travelers to sweeping vistas of the surrounding valley below, though communication is limited with only one bar of spotty LTE cell service. The entire trail drops approximately 400 feet in net elevation from west to east, making it a thrilling descent or a steep, traction-testing climb in the opposite direction.
