Trail Overview
This fun backcountry loop serves as a fantastic connector route in Pinal County, linking Sabado Diez directly over to Paisano's Pathway. The trail offers an engaging and visually stunning driving experience through a remote desert landscape. The terrain features a classic mix of deep sandy wash crossings, gentle off-camber sections, and eroded, rutted tracks. Because the path is tight and closely hemmed in by desert brush, expect overgrown vegetation to rub against your vehicle—desert pinstriping is a distinct possibility.
The definitive highlights of this loop are two rare botanical landmarks located directly along the track: the Crested Saguaro and the Crested Saguaro Arm. These unique formations make the trail highly photogenic. While the ruts, deep sand, and slight off-camber leans will keep you actively choosing your lines, the route lacks major or dangerous obstacles. It serves as an excellent, confidence-building trail for beginners looking to practice basic wheel placement and low-traction sand driving. Dispersed camping pullouts with existing stone fire rings can be found scattered along the loop. If you plan to camp, remember that regulations strictly require your setup to be located at least 1/4 mile away from any active livestock or wildlife water tanks.
Difficulty
A technical rating of 3 is assigned to the Robinson Loop due to the narrow, single-lane backcountry conditions and specific terrain characteristics that require active driver engagement. Navigating the route involves managing low-traction scenarios through deep, loose sand wash crossings, alongside traversing eroded, rutted sections that present mild off-camber angles. Furthermore, the trail is tightly hemmed in by dense, overgrown desert vegetation with limited passing opportunities, introducing the distinct possibility of minor vehicle pinstriping. While entirely manageable for high-clearance stock vehicles, these combined elements demand mindful line selection and steady momentum, making it a true entry-level moderate trail.
