Trail Overview
North Ambassador Mine is the northern stretch of Forest Service Road 9002Y. The southern part of this trail is fairly easygoing but quickly becomes rocky and rutted. Many of these rutted areas are covered with loose rocks scattered across the trail. As you continue north, the trail changes to sand until you pass through a gate. Beyond the gate, the trail becomes heavily eroded, with ruts and loose rocks peppering the surface. These ruts continue all the way up until you reach the saddle. Be sure to pick a good line when traversing these ruts. After reaching the top of the saddle, the trail continues a short distance before ending. Although the trail does continue beyond this point, a motor vehicle use map prevents it from being mapped any further.
Difficulty
Expect an uneven, rutted dirt trail with loose rocks, sand, erosion, and washes. Some ruts are up to 18 inches deep.
History
The Ambassador Mine was discovered in 1914 and began mining gold in 1941. This was an underground mining operation.
