Difficulty
This is an unmaintained trail with wash crossings, rocky sections of uneven larger than basketball-sized rocks, narrow rocky sections of trails, and steep hills with loose rock and holes. Parts of this trail may become exacerbated after or during monsoon season or a major moisture event.
History
The trail passes by the Eagle Eye Memorial Cemetary in Aguila, Arizona. It is a charming cemetery in a gorgeous setting of cacti, palo verde, and mesquite trees. It lies at the foot of a large rocky hill covered in saguaros and overlooked by a hole through the hill, which is beneath what resembles an eagle's head (therefore the name "Eagle Eye"). Local folklore says that this cemetery contains the "last hung man in Arizona," but there is no marking to indicate that fact. There are lots of unmarked stakes and mounds which populate the cemetary. Graves are set randomly in amongst the rocks and bushes, and gravestones face in all directions. The wrought iron entrance gate was created and installed by Leon Powell and Ernest Freeney. Arija Powell designed, and R. Leonard constructed the arch crowned with an eagle.
