Trail Overview

This very scenic run can vary in difficulty depending on the time of the year. A little bit of water running changes everything, making the rocky spots challenging for the minimally skilled. We took this run in March, and there was a little bit of water running in the Sycamore Creek and some flowing from the springs in the rock garden area. Only one vehicle did not have lockers, and she got a quick lesson on listening to your spotter and driving with two feet. It starts meandering across the wash and river, if flowing for a mile or two, and then takes a sharp turn right or north on the Log Corral Trail. This initially starts off very narrow, with shrubs lining the side of the trail. The width is an illusion but plan of the potential for AZ pinstriping! After a mile or so, you start to enter the rock garden, where the obstacles vary and can offer some real challenges. Most have two options, so you may want to get out and look because there is not enough room to turn around at any point in this area!! Two natural springs are flowing just enough to make it tricky and remember, wet sand can easily dig a pit. The vehicles running 12 PSI or less had little gripping issue, but those 15+ slid a bit. After the rock garden, you continue to twist and turn in a narrow trail with boulders to flex over or contort around, but this time, you have trees also to watch out for. Shortly after this next mile or two, it opens up to a beautiful scenic run of a dirt trail and sometimes rolls. If your sway bars are not disconnected by now, you will feel like you will tip over at any moment. After climbing the hill for a few miles, you'll see the Log Corral at the top; there is a gate just before it. Kind of cool rustic history of the West. You will also have a stunning view of Bartlett Lake. Continue on, and there is another gate, but you can drive to a crossroads. You can easily miss it, too. South goes around the lake, North goes into the hills, I think, but straight goes to a private feeling cove on the lake. This would be a great place to camp overnight. This is not a run to do alone, and I recommend high profile, lifted with lockers, but the skilled driver can do it with limited-slip differentials.

Obstructed
Impassable Water Crossing
About 1 mile from the staging area there is an impassable crossing of thick, swampy mud. I watched many people try to go through and either got stuck or decided to turn around. Trail still needs time to dry out.

Flooded out really close to the start of the trail. Absolute swamp conditions with very deep and thick mud. Give it some time to dry up.

This is a great trail with only one real obstacle, but it has no bypass. It's a two step rock ledge that the side by side losers have stacked around 100 loose baby head rocks making traction pretty non existent. My locked front and rear Samurai on 33s would just dig the loose rocks out of the way and hang up on them so I threw winch to get thru what should've been a pretty basic obstacle to not hold up trail traffic. because of this one area it's probably more like a 6-7 difficulty, but the rest of it is a 3 at most cake with some optional fun lines similar to telegraph trail. beautiful area, absolutely great day for an easy ride. bring your swim shorts and some flip flops to get in the lake at the end of the trail

Went in early April, cool weather in the morning. Started out calm, came up to the first obstacle my Ram had no problems on the first obstacle. Definitely gets tights with the fullsize truck. Made it to the second obstacle and turned around. With more experience I'm sure my full size Ram would have made it to the lake. Will try to finish the whole trail in the future!! Awesome time plenty of SXS and Dirt bikes on the trail. Be respectful and Don't Leave Your Trash!! Safe Trails everyone!

Great trails with only two obstacles the rest is pretty easy no need for lockers or anything but 35s I’m sure you can get away with 33s

One serious obstacle with no go around. Fun time. Enjoyed the varied scenery. Stopped to see two gila monsters on the trail. The burn scars are a bummer but it's coming back.

Made it in a Gladiator with 37’s and 2” lift. Banged my rock sliders a few times in the technical section. Wet and stream was over 2ft in places.
