Trail Overview

This is a fun desert loop in Page, Arizona, that takes you out to a view of Lake Powell. It goes north from the dirt parking lot on Coppermine Road for 2 miles. Going counterclockwise from the south end, go past the RV park, and it's a red sandy track. Part of it is through a sandy wash between two sand banks. One spot has a ton of tumbleweeds in the track. It's fast and straight in the sand, but watch out for wash crossings when the trail suddenly dips down and back out. You can see out to the pink cliffs by Lake Powell as you're riding north, with big rock formations on the horizon. As you get near the canyon, the sand turns to slab rock, and you can stop at the view over the lake. You can go the same way on the way back, or you can take a parallel road for part of it, just to do something different. The parallel road is similar difficulty, made of sand, with lots of unmarked intersections.

Trail is pretty ez. But you can get off trail fairly easy. Near the end of the trail it was a bit confusing on which way to go. Trail ends with a great over head view of the river below. Was able to see several kyakers.

The trail was mostly firm sand with some soft spots. Toward the North end closer to the lake it became slick rock. No major obstacles. This area is full of sandy trails that interconnect. There is a large area to park and stage in just off Rte 98 (Coppermine Road), which is City property, according to the map.

Did it on 4HI without airing down. But when I turned around kinda got stuck on the deep sand right off edge of the cliff. Had to air down to 20 and got back right out. Super easy trail and and some rock slabs.

trail breaks off into 3 sections after you start. If you want more of a Moab feel with some rock climbing keep to the left trial closest to the plateau. It wasn't anything too crazy but a couple of the rock ledges are close to 18in that you will need to climb. Deep sand at times and plenty of cross trails that can keep you busy. The end of the trail is worth the view!

There’s a campground where the trail entrance used to be, so you have to drive past it using the side street. There is a network of new trails in the early sandy part of the trail that make it difficult to follow. At the fork, going in, we took the right fork and ended up having to find a way back to the left fork in order to cross the gully. I recommend taking the left fork. There are a number of sandy wash crossings with steep entry/exit that can be a challenge with stock tires, especially if not aired down. There’s a decent hill mid trail with a bypass if you don’t feel froggy. When you get to the three way fork around the sandstone formations, take the middle route.

Fun exploring the sandy washes, their are road branches everywhere. OnX map really needs to be updated. There is a trailer park you go around that isn't on the OnX map, and so many side roads it's very hard to stay on "the path". Mostly the roads will come back around to it eventually. Once you get the the sandstone parts, it gets more difficult to follow as there are no cairns or signs to help keep you on the trail and the map is all you've got! It doesn't appear this trail gets used very much.
