Trail Overview

It's best to run this track from north to south. There are many abrupt climbs and descents on the north end that better lend themselves to southbound travel. The beginning (north end) of this track traverses some rough terrain with off-camber and hairpin turns, rocky (12-inch boulder) washes, and abrupt and steep uphill and downhill grades. For this reason, it has a difficulty rating of 7. Once through the rather difficult northern portion, the terrain mellows out but still has some abrupt, short, and steep downhills. This is not a trail for full-sized 4WD pickups. The mountain and valley vistas are superb, so don't forget your camera! This is classified as an all-year trail, but with all southwestern desert mountainous areas, don't even consider riding this with an active monsoon going on--unless you don't mind being washed downhill clear into the Colorado River!

Difficulty

This is an off-camber trail with deep holes and large rocks that may exceed axle height. Expect erosion, loose rocks, sand, washes, shelves, and deep mud holes. There are obstacles and ledges up to 5 feet, and near-vertical grades 20 to 40 feet tall. There's potential for water deep crossings during monsoon season. Caution: Vehicle damage and roll-overs are possible.

The first half of the trail was up a standard wash and drove it in 2WD. Two short hills with a step grade was the most difficult part of this trail and could be done with a stock Jeep Rubicon. We even attempted to look for optional lines to get to the 7 rating of this trail but didn’t find anything. Once you climb the first hill out of the wash we make a couple other short climbs with loose gravel and rocks less than 12”. There is one sharp turn to climb out of a wash that longer wheel base vehicles may have to make a two or three point turn to make it but still easily negotiable.
