Jumpup Point - FR201

Jumpup Point is a 10.3-mile point-to-point trail rated 3 of 10 located within the Kaibab National Forest, North Kaibab Ranger District. Jumpup Point is located on the western edge of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. FS201 is passable with a high clearance 2WD vehicle under dry conditions and the forest service recommends 4WD vehicles with the road ending at Jumpup Point. The road consists of hardpack dirt with lots of embedded rock. FR201 crosses a high plateau sparsely covered in small Ponderosa Pine. There are numerous trails that can be used to reach FS 201, have a fun adventure deciding which way to take. FS201 as well as other roads to the North Rim are closed during the colder months which vary from year to year. During the last 6 miles or so there are some great views of Jumpup Canyon and the Kanab Creek Wilderness along the eastern side of the trail. Kaibab National Forest borders both the north and south rims of the Grand Canyon, in north-central Arizona consisting of 1.6 million acres divided into three sections. The North Kaibab Ranger District is located exclusively north of the Grand Canyon on the Kaibab Plateau. The Kaibab Plateau is an island surrounded by lower elevations. The plateau, with elevation up to 9,215 feet (2,800 m) is bordered on the south by the Grand Canyon, on the east and the west by tributary canyons of the Colorado River, and on the North by tiers of uplifted cliffs. Expect to have no cell service and no one to extract your vehicle if you break down anywhere along the path. The nearest fuel service is located in Jacobs Lake or Fredonia. Full services are located in Fredonia or Kanab, Utah.
