Trail Overview

Take a beautiful drive from Highway 260 to FR 118 up north. You'll pass through wide-open meadows and dense forests of pine and aspen on a moderately bumpy dirt road with some small washouts. Along the way, you'll find cool spots to camp and fun side roads, including a stop at Greens Peak lookout tower. Enjoy awesome views of St. Peter's Dome on the west side and Whiting Knoll on the east, where you can see lots of wildlife such as elk, pronghorns, and mule deer. Abundant side roads offer hours of exploring the area. Cell service is limited in this area.

Pretty normal conditions. After the rains early October things were muddy in spots and a little rutted and washboarded. The road up to the peak was decent. Kept graded by the telecom companies. Fall colors had peaked above 9000’ but lower it was amazing. wrangler in 4wd HI. No need anywhere for low.

Both 60 and 260 were dry and dusty most of the way. If you come from 60 there are a couple of muddy spots from melting snow but easy. A few washboard spots from either direction. Any vehicle with some clearance or 4WD can do it. Was cold and crazy windy at top when we went. Bathroom was locked. No snow on top easily passable snow on way up and on sides of trail.
