Trail Overview

Stay left after crossing the cattle guard and head toward the big open meadow as this forest road begins. The trail is mostly easy dirt with a few washouts and scattered rocks that make for a slightly bumpy drive as it winds through the trees. It eventually opens up out of the forest onto a grassy mesa with low brush, where the road becomes smoother and more open before narrowing again in spots with tight pine branches. We even spotted a black rattlesnake along this route, so use caution if you’re out walking or traveling with pets. The trail ends at a lollipop-style camp spot tucked in the forest, a peaceful spot, but no views over the rim.

Difficulty

This trail is rated 3/10 due to the mild washouts, rocky patches, and occasional tight tree sections. While generally easy, drivers should be comfortable with a slightly bumpy surface and tight vegetation in narrower sections.
