Trail Overview
Trail 14, also known as Brooklyn Mine Trail, begins off Road Between Worlds as a wide two-track. A small spur appears on the right near the start; continue straight to remain on the mapped route. The trail immediately descends a steep, loose-rock section with rocks up to 12 inches, ledges, and off-camber areas where careful wheel placement and differential clearance are critical. A spotter may be helpful, and stopping to inspect the line is recommended when conditions are unclear. After the descent, the route becomes an easier dirt road for approximately one-quarter to one-half mile, winding through several hills and corners before reaching a monsoon-eroded climb. This obstacle begins with an uneven flex section leading into an off-camber V-notch, where proper tire placement and a spotter can help maintain a safe line. Beyond the obstacle, the trail briefly becomes easier before reaching a split near the historic Brooklyn Mine Boarding House. The right fork is heavily overgrown and is not recommended; stay left on the mapped route, descend the steep hill, and watch for a washout at the transition. Continue around the hill to the trail’s end near the Brooklyn Mine site. Use caution around the aging boarding house, respect the historic remains, and never enter abandoned mine workings.
Difficulty
This trail includes steep, rocky climbs and descents, deep ruts, seasonal washouts, and a narrow shelf-road section. Expect an uneven hill climb with limited traction, a V-notch obstacle in both directions, and several off-camber areas where a spotter may be helpful. A high-clearance 4WD vehicle with low-range gearing is recommended, and conditions may change over time due to future monsoon activity.
History
Brooklyn Mine is one of Bloody Basin's hidden pieces of Arizona mining history. Established around 1907, the mine produced gold, silver, and copper and operated intermittently for more than 60 years before closing around 1970. At its peak, miners hauled supplies nearly 30 miles by wagon from Mayer into this remote camp, where a small but active mining community once stood. Today, weathered ruins, mine openings, and scattered relics offer a glimpse into Arizona's rugged mining past—but remember to admire abandoned mines from a safe distance and never enter old workings.
