Trail Overview

This is a 1.3 mile-long difficult dead-end single-track accessed off of North Castle Hot Springs Road. The south end starts as a wide rocky path, more like an old road. It goes past an old mine with a mill for processing mica and beryllium from the 1960s. The trail chokes down into a narrow ravine between the hillsides. It's rocky and troughed, with big boulders, washouts, overgrown bushes, and tons of loose rocks filling in the ravine. You have to climb up the ravine into the hills on a narrow single track. This section is more primitive and washed out, faint and overgrown, and harder to follow. There are also lots of cactus to avoid. After climbing up a few hundred feet elevation, it dead ends in this canyon between the hills, with a pretty scenic view. There are unique rock layers in the hills, and you're surrounded by saguaros. It has to be ridden as an out and back. Since this trail is on Arizona State Trust Land, it requires a recreation permit that you can obtain online.
