Trail Overview

Bear Jaw Canyon is a rocky and rough trail that weaves through the Ponderosa Pines on the Northern slope of the mountainous region North of Flagstaff, Arizona. This area of the Coconino National Forest has many trails that connect through the landscape as this area is popular with hikers, hunters, and recreationalists. The trail, at times, seems to be little more than a rock ditch, with washouts, erosion, and water damage. The rock gardens that encompass the trail have some ledges about 12" high, as well as rocks slightly larger than basketball-sized. There are two bars of Verizon service out here, but it bounced between that and 3G service, so offline maps are recommended. There are some bypasses on the larger obstacles, but not for all, so it's best to take your time and choose your line. Along this trail, you might see elk and deer, as well as various bird species.

Not a green trail. More like a solid 4-4.5 due to washouts and large rocks. If you have good clearance, you will be fine. It’s a fun trail and great to challenge your off-road skills if new. Download map is a must as cell service isn’t always available and trail isn’t clear in a couple of spots.

This was rough. Often times I couldn't recognize the bypass. Made it about 2/3 of the way going north to south and had to tap out.
