Trail Overview

This well-maintained road takes you through the Red Rock District of the Coconino National Forest. Starting on FS Road 525, it turns onto FS Road 795 which leads you to the Palatki Heritage Site. This historical site has ancient ruins and well-preserved petroglyphs. Most 2WD vehicles can travel this road. Lower-clearance vehicles should take it slow and should have no problem. There are some small rocky areas on this road. The road is very dusty which can cause brief visibility issues. Lastly, there are many designated camping areas along the road with toilets.

Did this in a RWD Chevy Express Van. Easy trail, almost any vehicle could do this. As far as camping, they closed all the individual dispersed sites. There are 5 large dirt parking lots where you can camp along with everyone else, basically right on top of one another. Also, looks like campfires are a thing of the past. There are permenant no campfire signs everywhere.

Was open 3/4ths of the trail. All camping spots were open and little after that there were signs of temporary closure due tu safety.

Easy drive - but can get busy in spots. Watch for traffic around a couple of blind curves.
