Trail Overview

This is an easy 2-mile segment of two-track on a ridgeline through the Hieroglyphic Mountains northwest of Phoenix, Arizona. It's a wide path between the giant cactus plants, with nice views of the rugged mountains. The surface of the trail is covered in loose dirt and gravel and small loose rocks, often making it slippery. From the north end, the trail descends and winds down the ridge, with a few steep spots, but mostly gradually. It follows the ridgeline across the mountain range, next to giant saguaro cactus. It drops down into a gravelly wash, lined with big bushes and small trees, and you need to watch out for scraggly branches at eye level. It keeps going south in the wash until it ends at a road that climbs out of the wash. Since this trail is partially on Arizona State Trust Land, it requires a recreation permit that you can obtain online.
