USFSR #548 (South) is a beginner-friendly, 7.6-mile point-to-point offroad trail located in the Shoal Creek District of the Talladega National Forest, offering a scenic drive through the Choccolocco Wildlife Management Area. Perfect for stock four-wheel-drive vehicles, SxSs, and offroad novices, this trail stands out for its easy accessibility and lush forested surroundings. Beginning at Oxford Street/County Road 66 at its southern end, the route winds through rolling terrain with elevations ranging from 938 feet up to 1,416 feet, totaling a cumulative elevation gain of 761 feet. The primary surface consists of dirt with light gravel, which can wash out during wet periods and hunting seasons, creating shallow mudholes that add a touch of fun without requiring high-clearance modifications. The trail leads to the Big Oak Physically Disabled Hunting Area, which permits ATVs on designated routes with a valid permit, making it an excellent base for multi-use outdoor recreation.
