Old Checkpoint Loop

This short, straightforward route provides a quick loop off Highway 1 and back, with no significant obstacles. Entering from the northwest, you'll soon come upon a spacious gravel area, ideal for camping a dozen or more vehicles, set far enough from the road to enjoy some peace. Continuing, the trail turns right and makes a U-turn near a tree-shaded arroyo. The route then ascends gently back to Highway 1, passing an old cemetery and ultimately emerging near an abandoned military checkpoint that operated for several decades before it closed.
