Trail Overview

This trail is locally known as "El Canon". It is a thrilling off-road trail that brings Star Wars nostalgia to life. Reminiscent of Beggar's Canyon from Tatooine, this natural dry riverbed cuts through rugged terrain with steep, wind-carved walls and winding, banked turns perfect for a spirited ride. The trail twists tightly between high canyon walls, offering an exhilarating ride that locals love to race through -- a true desert rollercoaster. The "course" starts at 171 feet and quickly drops to sea level less than a mile down. The canyon's sandstone walls, shaped by centuries of wind and flash floods, create a dramatic and beautiful backdrop as you carve your way through the curves. The trail surface is sandy, with some deep patches that can challenge traction and require lower tire pressures. Though not overly technical, the high-speed potential and shifting terrain demand an attentive driver and a capable vehicle.

Difficulty

While suitable for most high-clearance 4WD vehicles, the sandy conditions and tight turns can pose challenges, especially for less experienced drivers or heavy rigs. Deep sand may require recovery gear or teamwork if aired down improperly. Speed should be kept in check unless you're familiar with the trail layout. It is a steep climb out of the canyon as well as deeper sand right at the end at the beach. Be aware of tidal levels.
