El Faro Connection

This trail begins in the small town of Santa Domingo, where the outskirts are marked by scattered trash and large piles of oyster, clam, and conch shells, common in these fishing areas. After a few miles on heavily washboarded roads, the route veers left onto a softer, winding path that follows the river feeding the nearby estuary. Although river views are limited, the trail offers a smoother, more enjoyable drive with minimal washboarding. Once a route for the Loreto 400 off-road race, this trail showcases medium-sized desert vegetation, small El Cardon cactus, shrubs, and occasional wildlife such as birds, rabbits, and coyotes. For those considering camping, there are open, flat spots along the way, but caution is advised if traveling with small pets due to the presence of coyotes. The trail ultimately connects to the El Faro Trail, providing a scenic and historic off-road experience.
