Trail Overview

The Sainte-Anne Traverse is a scenic 6-mile offroad route linking the Lac Chauveau uplands to the Rivière Sainte-Anne valley, offering high-clearance 4x4 vehicles a rugged journey through remote elevated terrain. This moderate trail winds across a series of ridges and drainages, providing access to remote upland landscapes, pristine lake systems like Lac Évangéline, and the slopes of Lac Wabon. Drivers will navigate unpaved forestry roads consisting of gravel, dirt, and native surfaces while enjoying numerous sweeping viewpoints of the surrounding mountains. To protect the adjacent biological refuge and sensitive backcountry ecosystems, travel must remain strictly on authorized routes. Minimal maintenance on this resource-access network means conditions vary wildly depending on the season and recent weather events. Spring thaws leave the road soft and muddy, and heavy rainfall frequently causes washouts, standing water, and erosion on the steeper, slippery grades. Drivers should be prepared for potential hazards including fallen trees, storm debris, active forestry traffic, and a complete lack of cellular coverage. Because recovery assistance is extremely difficult to obtain in this isolated mountain environment, proper self-recovery equipment and preparation are essential for anyone embarking on this traverse.

Sainte-Anne Traverse Trail can be accessed by the following ride types:

  • Single Track
  • 60 Inch
  • High Clearance

Access Description

Access to this route requires vehicle registration, permits, and entry fees payable at ZEC Batiscan–Neilson checkpoints, such as Accueil Mauvaise or Accueil Chute-Panet. Motorists must adhere to all ZEC regulations and remain strictly on designated roads to protect the adjacent biological refuge. Cellular service is unreliable or nonexistent, making self-sufficiency and proper recovery gear mandatory.
