Trail Overview
The Island Lake West trail offers a scenic route along the west side of Island Lake between the lake and the road to resources. This is primarily a dirt trail wide enough for two vehicles, though you'll encounter occasional stretches where it narrows to a single lane, including some one-lane bridges. The trail is essentially a dirt road with a minor washout area, up to 12 inches deep, which can be navigated with caution. While a high-clearance vehicle is recommended, it's generally considered accessible for stock vehicles. Be aware that from December 1st to April 15th, this trail is exclusively for snowmobile use, and other vehicles are not permitted. Cell service is mostly unavailable along this route, although you might find weak reception in higher areas. In more open sections of the trail, you'll have opportunities to enjoy views of the wind turbines in the distance.
Difficulty
