Vernon Hill

This trail follows a single-vehicle-width track with a steady climb from start to finish, making it a fun and moderately challenging route for high-clearance 4WD vehicles. The surface consists primarily of packed dirt, with sections of loose shale and rock that can become more challenging in wet conditions. Near the bottom of this trail, you'll encounter a couple of small cross-ditches that have been dug out but are manageable in a capable 4WD vehicle. After the first major turn, there is a small berm that is easy to bypass. Beyond this point, the trail narrows considerably, and overhanging brush and young trees make pinstriping almost unavoidable. The surface transitions back to packed dirt, with grass growing over portions of the trail, giving it a more remote and less-travelled feel. At the top, there is a small turnaround area where one or two vehicles could set up for a basic overnight camp. There is unfortunately no viewpoint at this location as it is tucked away in the trees, offering privacy but no views. A small pond is located within a short walking distance down the trail, although it is shallow, marshy, and tends to attract plenty of mosquitoes during the warmer months. If you're looking for a more scenic place to spend the night, a much better campsite can be found near the bottom of the trail by the radio tower. This site offers sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding valley, including Kalamalka Lake, Okanagan Lake, and the City of Vernon, making it an excellent spot to relax or catch sunrise and sunset. Be prepared for brush contact along the upper section of the trail, and remember to stay on designated routes, respect other trail users, and pack out everything you bring in.
