Trail Overview

Postill Lake Road is an 9.8-mile forest service road that offers a scenic climb from the valley floor behind Kelowna International Airport up to the beautiful sub-alpine waters of Postill Lake. This well-traveled route is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts looking for a quick escape into the backcountry, whether for target shooting, camping, or enjoying a lakeside picnic. The route begins at an elevation of roughly 1,950 feet and steadily climbs over 2,680 feet through dense forest and logged areas, offering peek-a-boo views of the Okanagan Valley below. As a primary access point for the region's higher-elevation lakes, the road is heavily utilized and generally well-maintained. While the main forest service road is easy and accessible for most standard vehicles, the final approach into the Postill Lake recreation site presents a technical challenge rated at a 3 out of 10. This entrance is riddled with deep ruts, muddy patches, and off-camber sections that require high-clearance vehicles to navigate safely without sustaining damage. Once at the summit elevation of 4,642 feet, visitors can access the recreation site for camping and fishing, or explore surrounding side trails leading to Moore Lake and South Lake. Due to its elevation, the route is best traveled from late spring through fall when snow has cleared, though winter brings active snowmobilers to the area.
