Trail Overview
Margaret Creek Pass is a challenging trail over a pass that connects Norrish Creek FSR to Statlu Creek FSR and then Chehalis FSR. The trail starts out with a mild, steady climb with a gravel surface that is in good condition. Once you turn left at the first branch, things change. The road immediately starts a steep climb with several switchbacks and a surface that is rocky and loose in places. There are some nice views back down to Norrish from under the power lines. At the top of the pass, the trail changes dramatically again. The road surface changes to dirt, gravel, and loose rocks. The trail is heavily overgrown with alder and has many large water bars requiring a decent lift and larger tires. The trail is also washed out and off camber in places. Expect lots of new pinstripes even with the mirrors in. There are only a few views along the trail as you are stuck down in the alder for km after km. It is very slow going. The final descent down to Statlu Creek is heavily eroded and steep, with large, loose rocks up to 24” and a log crossing near the top. It is challenging and requires patience and a careful line to get down with no issues. The last few hundred meters to Statlu Creek FSR is gravel and is in decent condition.
Difficulty
This trail has steep climbs and descents with loose rocks, washed-out sections with large rocks up to 24", and deep, steep water bars. It is also narrow and heavily overgrown with alder trees. This trail would be painful in a full-width 4x4.
