Trail Overview

The Kettle Valley Rail Trail (KVR Trail) is essentially the "gateway drug" for off-roaders, as it is perfect for those new to off-roading in stock vehicles. Once you head up into these hills and take in the views this trail provides, you will be hooked and left wanting to explore further. This trail is an old decommissioned railway, which is now a level-grade trail that serves as a backbone for accessing the Chute Lake area. There are endless side trails to explore (some are mild and some are much more challenging), or you can stay on this trail and just head to the Chute Lake Lodge - a fantastic place to stop for lunch. There are also several viewpoints along the way that showcase panoramic views leading from Summerland up to Kelowna and beyond. This trail is best traveled during summer months by 4x4, but is also a popular snow wheeling route during the winter. Aside from potholes, the trail is usually in great shape - there are no major obstacles to contend with, and stock vehicles should do fine during the summer.
