Trail Overview
Known as Mini Whipsaw, Ho Chi Minh, or Branch 22, this trail boasts stunning views of a breathtaking lake, but don’t let its beauty deceive you. There is nothing mini about this trail. Due to its high elevation, snow blankets the trail most of the year, with clear conditions typically from early August to late September. From the moment you leave the highway at the trailhead, prepare for a relentless, steep climb in 4-low gear all the way to the lake. This highly technical trail features loose rocks, slick boulders, and off-camber sections weaving through tight trees. For safe navigation, a minimum of 35-inch tires, front and rear lockers, and a winch are strongly recommended.
Difficulty
Off-camber trail with deep holes and large rocks that exceed axle height. Expect erosion, loose rocks, sand, washes, shelves, and mud holes. Obstacles and ledges up to 5 feet, and near-vertical grades 8-10 feet tall. Water crossings with potentially strong currents. Caution: Vehicle damage and roll-overs are likely.
