Trail Overview

This route begins as a maintained dirt road with generally smooth travel and gradual elevation gain. As it climbs, the surface becomes increasingly rocky, with loose stone and embedded rock creating a rougher ride near the top. The road is wide enough for most high-clearance vehicles, but caution is advised in the upper section due to the uneven terrain and potential for tire damage.

Difficulty

The upper portion of this route is quite rough, with long stretches of loose rock on steep grades. Traction can be challenging, and the rocky surface increases the risk of vehicle damage. One vehicle in our group experienced a blowout near the top — despite running heavy-duty off-road tires — and another sustained a dented oil pan. High-clearance 4WD, good-condition tires, and skid plates are strongly recommended. Airing down tires before the climb can improve traction, reduce impact from sharp rocks, and improve ride comfort.

History

Originally constructed as a forestry access road, this route has since become a recreational off-road destination. The rocky upper section has worsened over time due to erosion and vehicle traffic.
